One of the best stress/anxiety relievers is meditation, so today I am going to reinforce the importance of meditation for inner balance and calm and talk you through a guided meditation. So, take just 20 minutes or more from your day and find a quiet spot. Sit comfortably, loosen your clothing and remove any distractions like your phone, TV or radio, etc. Close your eyes and take some nice deep breaths. Then in your mind’s eye give yourself permission to relax, say to yourself “I give myself permission to relax, fully and deeply” several times. Then, systematically focus on each body part starting with your head, relaxing all the muscles in your face and jaw, your neck, your arms, your body, your legs, your feet. Visualise yourself to be like a rag doll, all loose and limp and floppy. Focus on your breathing. When you exhale blow out all that tension you are feeling, counting down from 20 -1 trying to concentrate really hard on just your breathing and throwing out any thoughts that come into your mind and back to the breathing. Then simply relax and allow your subconscious mind to meander through your thoughts. Listen to your body and your inner whispers.
This can also be a great way to fall asleep if you do it laying down, so for meditation ensure you are sat upright. If you can sit on the floor with your legs crossed great, but if not a comfy chair or cushion will suffice. It takes practice so don’t worry if you find it difficult, the important thing is to do it.
Be kind to yourself today and do this every day! You will be amazed at the results.
